I’m a – let’s say mid 30′s – knitter and freelance writer who lived in Seattle for the last 15 years until I moved to a cabin outside La Conner, WA in September, 2006.
I’ve moved around a lot in my life (last time I counted, I had lived at 35 addresses, in 16 cities, in 11 states). I grew up in Anchorage, Alaska, moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1990 to attend college, graduated from UW with a B.A. in English Lit in 1995, and consider Seattle to be my home.
I have been a computer geek ever since I was a child (I beat Zork on my Kaypro II at the age of 14), and I have earned a living as a Linux and Unix sysadmin (for various employers) since 1999. This blog runs on a FreeBSD server being hosted by the best webhost in the world.
A large portion of my life has been lived online since I discovered Usenet in 1994. From 1998 through 2001-ish, I wrote funny movie reviews of low-budget science fiction movies and published them on my website (the reviews are no longer available online, although I do still have copies). When my job moved me to Atlanta for a year, I began blogging as a way to keep in touch with my friends and family in the PNW. After I moved back to Seattle (THANK GOD) I dropped the blog and got on with the business of my life, until the spirit moved me again in July 2004.
In December of 2005 I knit a sweater for a tree on a whim. I’m still astonished that out of everything I’ve ever done in my life, it’s the treesweater that made me Internet Famous. Go figure, right?
