I guess I have a new hobby now. You know, for all the spare time that I have?
(I haven’t even managed to finish catching up on the first half of Breaking Bad season five. I wish Netflix had given us more time on that before the second half premiered. I have saved last night’s episode and hopefully will be able to get all caught up by Wednesday or so.)
The cross stitch is going pretty well so far. I picked out a cheap kit at Walmart, chose some new words to edit into the middle bit, spent about an hour and a half getting an in-person lesson from a friend, and now here we are.
Cross stitching turns out to fit nicely in with the current chaos, though. Due to the renovation project which is happening to my cabin from 8AM-8PM every day seven days a week, I’m basically living in a noisy fishbowl.
Although my cabin has a footprint of only 180 square feet, it has thirteen windows on the ground floor, and only two of them have curtains. My desk is the only place I can sit and not feel like a bunch of dudes are watching me.
I can’t get into spinning while they are working – too hard to concentrate – and the ergonomics for knitting at my desk are just not good.
Cross stitching hits that Goldilocks “Just Right” sweet spot. I can turn on an audiobook, don my ear buds, clamp on the construction grade earmuffs, turn on my task light, and work away.
