Note the tail. The tail wasn’t there when I framed the picture. This is the bedroom loft, what you see of it when you’re coming up the ladder.

Here’s the perspective from the bed, looking towards the ladder. See those cat carriers? That’s how high I’ve stacked that shelving unit with crap just to get it off the floor.

If you’re lying in bed, this is what you see out the window. (Also: more tail.) This window faces directly east, and it’s nice to have the morning sun somewhat obscured by the trees. The sun comes in the windows in the early afternoon, which helps heat the place up for the evening (and of course, the cats love the sunbeam action).

Part of what freaks people out about the loft is that only two sides are fully enclosed by walls. The side with the windows – the side with the exposed missing-corner beams that you can see from downstairs – is open at the bottom. This is great for cats who want to spy on you (as cats like to do), and for heat circulation in winter and ventilation in summer.

It also means that if you sit up and peer down over the foot of the bed, you’re looking straight down into my incredibly messy kitchen, eek!

Moving back downstairs, here’s my incredibly messy couchal area, eek! This is where I spend most of my time, so it’s been pretty thoroughly nested. Note the two dozen cans of Diet Coke on the coffee table – dad brought those over, leftover from the wedding. I have nowhere else to put them, I can only fit six at a time into the mini-fridge. But I’ll drink them, for sure!

When not shifting boxes and taking pictures of my incredibly messy kitchen, eek! I worked on Secret Sock. I’m sticking with extreme close-ups, so that your opinion of the pattern isn’t influenced by my unbearably bad yarn choices. Although written for Socks That Rock, I think this pattern (soon to be released) would look super awesome worked in two solid colors. (I’m thinking dark blue and cream for my next set.)

Anyway, this is the beaded part. You may think that beads on a sock are a little bit much, but trust me, if you were an eight year-old girl, you would flip the **** out with excitement about the beads on the sock! If there are any eight year-old girls in your life, put beads on their socks. Trust me, they’ll love it!

  1. Ha! My house looks just like your house, except our piles of crap are covered with dust and dog/cat hair. Love the sock — I’m gonna be on the lookout for an 8-yo girl. (Hmmm, just remember one. Look out, world!)

  2. I can see how the beading thing would so work for 8-year old girls. :)

It looks like a cool space. And the tail is very very sneaky.

  5. [...] a picture that I tried to pretend was the day after moving day. The truth is, it was taken about a week later. And it looked like that for at least two months. [...]
