Book Giveaway: Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick

Update: random.org has chosen Marshall as the winner. Marshall, you should have received an email from me. And as always, thanks everyone for entering!

This may seem like something of a random choice, but it’s a tangential tie-in to President’s Day. The Man in the High Castle is a dystopic alternate history science fiction book by Philip K. Dick, in which the alternate world diverges from our own when President Roosevelt is assassinated in 1933. So there’s your Presidents’ Day tie-in, see? Sure.

Mostly, it’s because this is an incredible book. I have read it at least five times, and it blows my mind every time. Arguably Dick’s best work, this intricate novel posits a world in which the Axis won WWII, slavery was never abolished, and (as you might expect from a Philip K. Dick novel) nothing is what it seems.

To be entered to win, leave a comment on this post. The drawing will be held Tuesday evening (Pacific time). The winner can choose between the trade paperback (shipped directly from Amazon), Kindle version, or the ebook version of your choice. Non-U.S. residents ARE eligible!

  • I love sci-fi, but I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve never read any Philip K. Dick. My fingers are crossed that this will fix it!

  • I’ve never read any Philip K. Dick, but this book sounds awesome. Actually, it sounds like the premise of a Doctor Who episode, if aliens get involved!

    Sounds interesting!

Not in it for the raffle – you’ve reminded me I own this book, but got it while I was living in Japan and a dystopian futureverse where there was no Good Old U-S-of-A (TM) to go back to was quite depressing. I’ll have to revisit it now that I’ve been reminded that I own it!

Sounds cool! If I don’t win, I promise to check it out from the library. :)

  • Kristi

Sounds really interesting. I like those kinds of books. Will check it out either way.

  • Orli

I need something interesting to read after surgery! I’ll check it out even if I don’t win :)

    Books are always good!

I’ve been on a dystopian train lately, adding to it with a great author would be amazing. :)

I’ve recently added fiction books back into my reading repertoire. As I value your opinion, (your taste seems to be slightly off centre like mine!) I’d love to read this book.

  • Ginny

I haven’t read this one yet. It would be a nice addition to the library. Cool!

  • I have never read Philip K Dick. It’s about time to remedy that!

Sounds good. Plus, Hubs is a Philip K Dick fan, so maybe we can read it together.

I’m not putting myself up for the prize, because I don’t have time to sit around with a book in my hand, but thanks for the recommendation, and I’ll get someone to read it to me while I either rush around in the car, or sit and knit/spin! I went to Audible, where I had *eight* credits sitting languishing … and I’m downloading both this and OMG BLADE RUNNER!!!! – both of which I have not read (should that be ‘neither of which I have read’ ? ).

  • Emilee

I’ve never heard of this author (or the book) but it sounds like it’s right up my alley!

I would love to read a Philip K Dick book that I haven’t gotten to yet. Love all his stuff that I’ve read so far.

  • Marshall

Whoa, that sounds awesome. I love alternate universe stuff!
