Sims Sunday: Seasons!

This week snagged a copy of the Seasons expansion pack for half price at Target. Yay! Then I turned around and used the money I saved to buy the new Monte Vista town.

Seasons is the first expansion pack that doesn’t come with a new town, you see. And while I would not have bought it if I had paid full price for Seasons, I am very glad to have it. I was really getting tired of Moonlight Falls, not least because it looks exactly like where I live. Boring!

First I had to hop into the old town and pack everything up for Logan’s move. As I did that, Kitty – who was quite a senior feline at this point – died. Here he is being snuggled by the Grim Reaper. Sad!

Monte Vista is a small Italian-style village. Most of the village is situated up on a hill, encircled by an ancient stone wall.

Beautiful!

I started by buying Logan a small bachelor pad near the central town square.

For reasons known only to the game developers, this small stucco home includes two pets: Salvatore (a catfish) and Bryan (a rainbow trout).

We arrived at the beginning of summer. Temperatures were in the 80s already, and it was barely 8AM. Obviously Logan couldn’t go wandering around in a wacky sweater.

sims sunday

(Side note: I swooned when I saw those new “sunrise” lighting effects!)

He needed something more seasonally appropriate.

sims sunday

YES.

Now it was time to meet the townspeople.

sims sunday

Logan I told you to change into your summer clothes! But we got distracted by this handsome fellow, who had great chemistry with Logan. Rrrowr! Too bad he’s married with a kid. Boo.

sims sunday

There ya go! Get into the spirit of summer!

After a day spent meeting people in the plaza, Logan had received the “Tanned” moodlet, and had transformed into a golden skin tone reminiscent of a rotisserie chicken.

sims sunday

Across the plaza I found a magic totem pole. Werewolves can petition the pole for something called “Hunter’s Storm.” Obviously I did this immediately.

sims sunday

It started snowing! Soon the temperature had dropped from 87 to only 12 degrees, and the snow was falling fast. LOVE. IT.

sims sunday

Apparently the idea is that werewolves can have better luck hunting valuables while the storm is active. But who cares? It’s MAGIC SNOW IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER. Don’t waste it chasing rocks!

sims sunday

As the snow continued to fall and day turned to night, Logan finally met someone who was both interested in him AND single.

sims sunday

This is Emma Perry, and she wears sunglasses at night AND in the snow. She is that cool.

sims sunday

By dawn the storm had ended, the snow had melted, and Logan and Emma kissed beside one of the stone doorways to the countryside.

my dad told me I’m doing my own shopping for my own presents that he’s getting me this year.

Which Sims 3 expansion packs do I want (I have Ambitions, Late Nite and Pets)

I think I’m pretty sure I want Seasons. Anyone want to suggest to me another fun one or two. Hopefully I can find them on sale. (was going to buy some last week and didnt do it, and then Amazon told me the price went up on the stuff that was in my shopping cart. /sad)

  • Looks like getting a tan actually lightened Logan’s skin tone. Don’t think it works that way in real life.

YESSSS! I’m glad you were able to take advantage of that sale. Did you snag a Limited Ed copy?

  • Where the treetops glisten,
    and children listen
to hear werewolves in the snow….

Woo! Ordering now! I wonder if I’ll get the fish pets too, even though I refuse to buy the Pets EP – too much of an animal lover to watch even fake computer pets bite the dust! Crazy cat lady, party of one!

that town reminds me of twilight movies

  • Erika

Just so! They wanted to do a Twilight tie-in with the vampires and the werewolves. There is an abandoned baseball field in town, and one of the beaches is called La Shove (a reference to La Push beach which I think is where the werewolves live in Twilight).

Twilight is set in Forks, which is just around the Olympic Peninsula from me.

The vampires arent glittery are they? Vampires should not be glittery.

  • Erika

NO thank goodness… I was worried that they might be.

And Franz, I agree. I think the “tanned” skin tone makes him look like he has been buttered.

I just looked to see how much Seasons is. On Amazon and Target.com, it’s $29. At Walmart it’s $39.99. Kmart wants $50! Couldnt find it at Toys R Us or Shopko’s websites.

If I order from Amazon, I have a Prime membership, so I can do the 2 day rush shipping for free. Wondering if I should wait till after Xmas and see if there’s a sale.

Hopefully if I can get Seasons, my Sherlock Holmes Sims that I created will transfer over to Seasons without much problem. Last time I tried to transfer a favorite family of Sims into an new expansion pack, it crashed the game and I had to give up playing them.

I had a wierd …glitch? this week. I heard the burglar music. When I went outside over 20 burglars had congregated on the lawn. I had to phone the police multiple times and some were left in handcuffs standing around. They stayed there a few days and I couldn’t leave since ‘you are being burgaled’ It wasn’t until day three I got the option to let them go. They never starved either.. just sat on the sidewalk doing evil chuckles.

  • Another Erika

Gabes’ comment reminded me of something. Has anyone else seen an increase in burglars since the latest update? I had maybe two burglars in two generations, but now I’m getting a burglar maybe every other day, sometimes in the middle of the day, and the same burglar shows up at least twice. I’ve started resorting to resetting them when I see one on the lot.

Gabes and Another Erika, that is wild! I haven’t had that problem, but I did have an issue where my public park venue spawned like 30 proprietors. Probably similar game mechanics, if not the same codebase.

ErinLindsey, I will keep my fingers crossed for your Sherlocks! They definitely deserve to play in the snow. You can finally justify the big coats and scarves!

Am I totally evil that I used testingcheatsenabled true to “kidnap” a townie sim to play around with the plastic surgery at the hospital, and then I took him to an island in the park and left him there?

He’s sort of trapped on the island, he just stands there all frustrated because he cant leave. So far, he’s peed himself (and he’s a celebrity so now the whole town knows it) He cant sleep, or lay down, he’s hungry and he needs a shower and he’s stressed.

I’m apparently not a benevolent god to my sims. I’m waiting to see if his gravestone will end up on the island after he dies of starvation. He wont die of loneliness because he still has his cellphone and can call his wife.

Apparently I have a lot of fun seeing what happens to the sims in a bad situation. Cant wait to get seasons and strand someone on the island during a snowstorm. (maybe the pond will freeze and they can walk across?)
