Sims Sunday: Fiery!

(Why does the word fire turn into fiery and not firey?)

My intention this week had been to just tread water. After all, the new Supernatural expansion pack drops Tuesday. (I pre-ordered it, because I really wanted the Plants Vs. Zombies pea-shooter.)

But it didn’t take much time spent watching Idris study before I realized how boring this was. I started her back on the Firefighter career track, which provided some interest.

I also discovered that, in this reset version of Lunar Lakes, the other firefighters were closer to her age. One of the ways you level up as a firefighter is by befriending all of your coworkers. She took a special liking to a fellow named Franco Wolff-Cruz.

And he to her.

Ugly of the Week: what is wrong with this poor foal’s nose?!

sims sunday

It’s like he’s made of badly-pulled taffy.

Speaking of horses, here’s Idris and Titanium with the “Dramatic Pose” action.

Later I sent them to “Go for a Ride,” which puts the horse and rider on a random path through the town. I snapped this shot, which is my desktop background now.

Back at the firehouse later that night, things were going pretty well between Idris and Firefighter Franco. Well enough that I decided to risk a proposal right then and there.

Aw! True wuv.

Pity it was interrupted by the station alarm, as Idris had to rush out to save a bunch of ninnies.

sims sunday

The next night, Idris and Franco got married.

sims sunday

This is when I discovered that Franco has an elderly cat named Fah-Zhai. (No, I don’t know why someone would name a cat Fah-Zhai, much less how to pronounce it.)

When their households merged, the poor thing had to run across town on foot to his new home.

I… have seen worse.

I guess this would be a rare bob-tailed, solid white Scottish Fold. I’m kind of against the breeding of Scottish Folds because of their genetic predisposition to some very serious health problems. But I guess since this is not a real cat I should just let it go.

sims sunday

I think most elderly cats dream of fishies, actually.

Ah, the Scottish Fold thing! Yeah, I have an issue with that too. The whole thing of “designer genes” kind of disgusts me.

The two silver kitties that own me (!) are both Scottish Folds, but they were bred by someone who knew what they were doing– their father has straight ears, their mother has folds. Both of my kitties ended up with more British Shorthair traits than typical Scottish Fold, and only one of them has folded ears.

Knowing this, however, I had them both neutered as soon as possible when they were kittens. I had no intention of breeding them anyway, but as the Fold gene becomes more and more prevalent in the regular cat population (as it is a dominant trait), the odds of having two Folds (or at least a Fold carrier) making babies together and having really horrible medical issues really frightens me.

Another disease that Scottish Folds can have (which is not listed on the wiki page– I wonder why?) is
myotonia congenita (aka “fainting cat syndrome”), which I suspect is also related to some other mutated gene they have.

Although I love how affectionate my kitties are, the next ones I get will be complete moggies.

Was one of the wedding guests sitting there in just their pajama bottoms?

  • Everything about this post makes me go, “D’AWWWWW!”

  • Slager

Expansion pack!? Tuesday?!? D: Why am I always the last to hear about these things?

  • I think it’s pronounced Fuzzy, with an accent :D

  • Erika

    Ohhhh, that makes sense!

  • Love the post, as always.

It’s because of you I bought Sims2 and I loved every second playing. It’s because of the ponies that I finally started playing Sims3. My very own pony!

But now I’m finding the game lacking the effervescence of Sims2. While I’m deciding if this is the knee jerk reaction of change-is-bad or if I really would just rather play Sims2 forever, I was wondering if you could point me to a good site so I can learn more about Sims3? Maybe I’m just missing something.

Sorry to hear you’re not enjoying it! I know several Sims players who have gone back to Sims 2 because they prefer it for whatever reason.

Which expansion packs do you have? And is there anything specific you miss from Sims 2? I find that the base game in both cases was pretty limited, and a lot of the gameplay comes from the expansion packs.
