After playing the original Sims 3 Alphabetti ancestral home for a few minutes, I remembered why I moved in the first place. That world is super glitchy, and locks up about every 10 minutes of play.
Frustrating!
I hadn’t yet given Barnacle Bay a whirl. This is a new neighborhood (world) that was released last September. It has a pirate theme, and I always meant to check it out, but never got around to it. This seemed like the perfect opportunity.
I bought Felicity one of the nicer houses, furnished, and moved her in.
Her first wish was to work out, so I sent her to the town’s gym. It has a great view of the pirate ship restaurant on the beach.
Joy #1: moving to Barnacle Bay finally un-stuck Felicity’s Lifetime Happiness counter, so she is now accruing points normally. Joy #2: the game logic that usually moves NPCs towards your Sim – which seems to be broken in Bridgeport – works well here.
In fact, Felicity met her perspective sweetie here on her first time at the gym. As you can see, she seems to think Thomas Quinn is hot.
Felicity only has 13 more days before she turns into an old lady, so we need to make with the romance. Thomas had to leave, so I sent her out to the park. Here she met a grizzled surfer named Dude La Mer.
She also signed a few autographs. Lots of celebrities in Barnacle Bay, but she is one of the only four-star celebs.
The next day, she threw a house party and invited over all her new friends.
But she only had eyes for Thomas.
He agreed to stay the night. Things were going pretty well.
“Hey, ya wanna…?”
“EW, NO, GROSS!”
Little did I know, this would set the tone. Poor Felicity has been rejected more times than most mortals could bear.
That night a burglar appeared.
I had purchased a burglar alarm, which summoned the cops. But the burglar was spoiling for a fight.
And whaddaya know – the burglar won! She got away, but at least she didn’t manage to steal anything.
I love the look on Felicity’s face. “You let the burglar get away, and now you’re hitting on me?”
Every morning she invites over Dude La Mer. But they never get very far before he has to leave for work.
(It’s too bad, because I was hoping they would have babies with little baby mullets.)
Felicity met another prospective suitor, Richie Radan.
Their first meeting ended with a kiss.
But that night she went home and ate alone in her kitchen, as she had every night. (She’s still working through the pizza left over from the house party she had on her first day in town.)
“Hey, you wanna…?”
“EW, GROSS, NO!”
“Hey you wanna…?” “EW, GROSS, NO!”
She’s juggling three guys… and they are all rejecting her. If this keeps up, we’ll have to adopt!
Dude La Mer has a job?!
Hahahah. That was my exact reaction – Dude La Mer has a job?!
He has an entry-level job – he’s, like, a roadie or a barrista or something (I forget which).
There’s no way to dress people up like pirates in Barnacle Bay, is there? I thought there’d be at least a few pirates walking around if there’s a ship and all.

I finally got back into playing Sims3 when whatever my b-in-law did to fix the game (he installed a new antivirus on my imac) and then got distracted by the set of Zorro dvd’s that I bought last week. (The Duncan Regehr Zorro from like 21yrs ago)
I really need to get back into Sims3. Anyone know if there’s a way to dress a Sim like Zorro??
I’m sad there’s no buccaneer/bandito mask! You get a lot of piratical clothing, like bloomer pants and a decorative cutlass and stuff. I’m actually pretty pleased with the clothing options, even though I haven’t made much use of them yet.
I would love to start a family of banditos with masks. Especially if they could have swords. Someone needs to contact the makers of the Sims and start begging for Zorro masks.
Some superhero outfits would be cool too, even if they’re not superheros. (you could dress up the Insane sims in Riddler costumes or something…or something not so…Trademarked…) Instead of just having the Insane Sims talking to themselves, they could go be delusional!
If you bite the bullet and adopt her a baby I bet the next day somebody will take her up on her offers. It’s like only being able to have a baby when you stop trying.
Maybe if you dressed her up as a pirate, she’d get more action…

Is the pirate ship some place that your sim can go visit and explore, or is it just for decoration?
It’s a rabbit hole (a Hogan’s Diner). Which is kind of disappointing, but still, it looks pretty cool!
I’m thinking of buying Barnacle Bay now.
I just realized I’ve been playing Sims 3 since summer of 2009. I dont think I’ve ever stuck with a computer game that long. (ok, maybe Zork II…which I’d still be playing if I still had my Trash-80 computer)
If it werent for this blog (and the Splines) I probably wouldnt have gotten into Sims 3 at all. These two blogs could be great advertisements for the game. Every time you do something new with Sims, I end up going out and buying the expansion packs.
I used to play Sim Earth and Sim Ant back in the 90s. I’d get a nice ant colony going and then go in and kill them all.
With Sim Earth, I’d get a planet full of whales or something going, and then I’d destroy the place. But hadnt played those for years. I guess I was mean to my sims even back then.
I do sometimes wish there was an “Earthquake” or “Godzilla Attack” button I could push in Sims 3.
