Sims Sunday: Young Master Umlaut

I’d like to wish a happy 4th of July to all my readers, but most especially the American ones. I was going to make fun of the fact that we have a whole entire holiday that’s colloquially known by the date, and how it’s not like we say “Happy December 25th” or “Happy fourth Thursday in November.” But then I thought of Cinco de Mayo, and realized we’re not completely alone in that flavor of crazy.

Anyway, the game assigned Triana the ugly green floral print dress as maternity wear. Maybe in some future expansion pack we’ll be able to choose maternity outfits. I can dream.

One nice thing about professions like Private Investigator is that you’re not forced into maternity leave. Here’s a very pregnant Triana, breaking into a house to find clues.

Simon finally passed over into the Great Sim Beyond.

Death took a load off and read a book for a while after he was done.

Hobbies! Cecil, who has the Artistic trait, got a kick out of the drafting table I bought him.

Cute sketch!

I’m pretty sure this is a sketch of Bella Goth.

I upgraded their venue (Hollowlog Springs) with a public restroom that I think is pretty cute!

Finally it was baby time! I went with Sarah’s popular suggestion “Umlaut.”

sims sunday

Not long after the baby was born, Triana grew from a Young Adult to Mature Adult. What a sourpuss!

I decided to give her a little make-over. Funny how much she looks like Emily Deschanel, isn’t it? That’s Jenni’s jaw for you.

sims sunday

Speaking of Jenni, she died too. Her grandson was the last thing she saw.

Gone but not forgotten: toddler Umlaut burned his finger on a defective toy made by his grandfather Simon.

sims sunday

It frightened him so much that he hid in his toy chest for a while!

sims sunday

Cecil found a Laundry Gnome in the dryer! Here it is, posing in a head stand. This game is weird.

The new pop-up message workflow that came with the Ambitions expansion pack is awesome. But if you forget to check the pop-up queue after you come back from fixing a salad, the repo guys might show up and repossess your Sims’ laptop. Whoops!

And then it was Umlaut’s birthday.

sims sunday

Oh dear! He inherited his mom’s hair color, and his dad’s physique.

Umlaut is a well cool name! I think that kid should get some exercise!

  • Um, what’s the nice way to say that the US coined the 5 de Mayo name? And that it’s a made-up “holiday” so that schools can be multicultural? Because, um, it is. It’s the celebration of the winning of a minor battle against the French in 186x-something…I’m not all that sure. But Mexican’s only celebrate it in movies (Quincenera, I’m lookin’ at you) directed by non-Mexicans :) .

And I second Umlaut’s awesome name!

The most bizzare thing just happened in my Sims game. I just had two sims die on me within a minute or two. First one, Death came and picked her up…about 30 seconds later her husband dies…and he just hung there while the Simbots and his son cried.

Death never came back for him. His son had his birthday about 30 seconds after that, and then the son went to go chat on the computer with someone. The simbots got tired and went to bed…and the dead sim just hung there.

So, eventually I Reset Sim…and he’s alive now, but everyone else is mouring him as if he’s dead.

So, I guess he’s Undead now? He’s got another 41 simdays to live again.

    That was so weird!

He’s fully playable now too…and not walking around as a ghost..he’s a flesh and blood sim. (or a pixels and bytes sim?)

and, now my undead/reincarnated? sim is now engaged to his simbot. I think we’ll have a private wedding in the backyard.

  • Emily

engaged to his simbot? hee hee! that’s cool :)

I didn’t know that about Cinco de Mayo! It sort of came along after my time, school-wise, so I was only aware of it dimly as the sort of holiday where office workers get excited about dollar margaritas.

  • That sketch by Cecil sent me to Google to find the original painting. Because I don’t remember either the title or the artist, it was an impossible search. The best I could do was this:

The original that I remember was done by a contemporary of Edward Hopper and another member of the Ashcan School, if my increasingly unreliable memory can be counted on to recall what I learned in an art history class in about 1973.

    Umlaut is an awesome name.
