First, happy Easter everyone!
I had a very strange session of gameplay this morning. Right off the bat, Makoto jumped into the tub and started horsing around. I’ve never seen an adult play in the bathtub before. Here he is doing that SCUBA diver/60′s dance move thing:
A little bit later, Ernesto spontaneously brought toddler Garamond a bottle. And in order to do so, he had to walk all the way inside, then all the way back outside. And he actually handed it to her, instead of throwing it on the ground and walking away. (Like he always did with his own kids.)
One afternoon, I sent Makoto out to greet Clementine Alphabetti as she walked past on the sidewalk. Clementine is Makoto’s husband’s… wait, sorry, I’m laughing as I try to puzzle out the genealogy. Clementine’s brother Connor is Ernesto’s grandfather. I think that makes Clementine Makoto’s great-aunt-in-law. (??)
Anyway, Makoto greeted Clementine, who promptly flopped on the lawn and had an Aspiration Failure fit. She’s a Family Sim (as you can see from her red error bubble graphic), and she just met her own great-nephew-in-law, and she’s in Family aspiration failure? You can see Makoto twirling his finger around his ear in the universal sign for “looney tunes.”
(Wait… is “great nephew” an actual term? There must be, right? We have “great aunt” and “great uncle,” after all.)
Ernesto developed a powerful want for a new piano. I decided to replace the sad, empty birdcage in the living room. I’ve gotten tired of trying to keep parrots alive.
Re: piano: ITSH A TRAP. They all love it so much that they will play until they collapse from exhaustion. And every other Sim in the house comes running to watch them play. Nothing ever gets done in this house now that the piano is here. I’m going to have to delete it, if only to save my own sanity.
Speaking of traps, and the identification of same: I sent little Garamond upstairs to learn how to use the surgery training machine.
The next thing I knew, the action “Ask Makoto to give lesson” refused to be canceled out of her queue. I tried queuing up different actions, and I even sent Makoto up there to give her a lesson, but to no avail.
Not this again, I thought. I had an incident, back when Connor was a toddler, when he got stuck in a dog bed and eventually the Social Worker came to take him away before he starved, but she couldn’t get to him because he was stuck, so she stayed on the lot for ages and ages until I eventually gave up and exited without saving.
Having learned my lesson, as soon as I realized that Garamond was stuck, I exited without saving, and she was restored to non-stuck life.

What is an aspiration failure fit?
I don’t know but I think I’ve had a few in my life….
Your babies are getting so big, so fast. Pretty soon it will be time for them to leave the nest. Guess that will make you an empty nester? hahahaha
That scuba diver thing is called The Swim – there’s a really great song about doing the swim all night, but apparently if you want to hear it you’ll have to call me and have me sing it to you. It doesn’t seem to exist on the internet.
But trust me, it’s a great song. I might have an aspiration failure fit due to not being able to find it.
I’m a little afraid of how much I look forward to Sim Sundays. I have no desire, none, to play Sims myself, but I have a strong desire to know exactly what your Sims are doing. That’s just sick.
I have had a Sim play in the bathtub, but he was a pirate. It was pretty spectacular.
Do you use any hacks? I know a lot of people hate them, but I find Sims2 simply unplayable without them. In particular, some of JM Pescado’s (such as the toddler not playing with the toilet non-stop hack) from the More Awesome Than You forums.
My new fave though is the macrotastics. I can’t recall where it’s from, but it’s a super safe hack, I’ve never had it clash with anything or make any problems. You can use it to force errors when stuff like that happens – which is stupidly often. Also has the ‘rerandomise sim generator’ feature which means all your sim kids don’t end up looking the same!
[...] in those positions. And Jack was getting hungry! I had a flashback to the nasty incident when toddler Connor got stuck in the dog bed. With Sims 2, your only option was to exit the game without [...]
Oh no! I saved! My toddler will be stuck in the bed FOREVER! D: Does anyone know how to help me!?
Oh yes! Ctrl + Shift + C to bring up the cheat window, then type:
resetsim firstname lastname
Like “resetsim John Smith”
Then hit Enter and your Sim will be reset!
Oh my gosh thank you!
