Allow me to introduce the ladies. Can someone play some suitably grand and sweeping piano music? Thank you.
This is Harriet, a Rhode Island Red.
Dolly, a Black Star.
Martha, a Buff Orpington.
And Abigail, another Buff Orpington.
They were day-old when I bought them, which is kind of mind-blowing. They’re fully functional, if small and covered in baby feathers. They feed themselves, drink water, run around, scratch in their bedding, squabble over exciting finds, and peck each other. (Thus the phrases “henpecked” and “pecking order.”)
They have been stretching a lot, a yoga-like maneuver where they extend one winglet out to the side, and one leg straight back. I guess I would stretch, too, if I’d been stuck inside an egg all that time.

Awwww….chute
I’m cautious. Baby birds can keel over with little warning. But they’re so cute…and named…. Better keep them warm and fed well! I like Dolly and Martha best at first glance.
Have they gotten cuter, or is it just me?
What a coincidence. My porn name is “Buff Orpington”
I can’t wait to have baby chicks again. So. Much. CUTE!
Dolly looks like trouble to me
We’ve got some Buff Orpingtons on order. I can’t wait till they get here. Love the little chickie-birds!
At our house, the true sign of spring is chicks in the living room…
Enjoy!
Oooo they are cute!
Now, if you could just integrate the chickens with the Sims!
What lovely girls!
Ohhhhhh, I have major Chick Envy. !!!!!
How do you restrain the cats?
Dolly does look like trouble – something about that eye…
Ah, the wonders of precociality.
(There are two types of baby birds, precocial and altricial. Chicks are precocial, baby robins (for example) are altricial).
Precocial birds get cute a LOT faster.
(Those buff orpingtons are my favorite, I think they are the cutest. But that may be because they look most like my preconceived notion of “baby chick.”)
Dolly is the goth chick.
They are made of marshmallow, yes?
I have always loved saying the words “Buff Orpington”.
Oh my god, I want to snorgle Dolly. She is SO CUTE. Gah!
