Ah, the peace and quiet of living out in the woods.

Harriet (the red hen) is the loudest of the four of them. She wanders around talking loudly for the first half of the day, for no discernible reason.

I have no idea what she’s on about.

  • That was great! Godda love the chickies! Stopped by Country Cousin in Centralia on the way back from Sock Summit where I took that pic of the big big chicken house for you? Couldn’t get the girls to come out front like usual. It was late. They were in bed.

Maybe it’s a dominance thing? I love the quiet warbles from the others.

  • Do you ever talk to them? My mom uses her sweetest voice on her chickens…probably because she’s usually going in to take their eggs away, but when she’s in the coop with them they are all cooing and docile…like she’s the head chicken or something :) .

They do that loud cawk-cawing thing to order one another about and warn about danger…are there any dogs near them? Or crows?

Harriet might even start cock-a-doodle-doing if there’s no rooster nearby for them to hear…chickens are strange sometimes…

  • She’s singing. The others are the back-up to her solos. You should knit them some little gold lame jumpsuits and start auditioning drummers.
