I’m working on a post about my collection of swatches. I did not realize that keeping a swatch library was an odd thing until I mentioned it off-handedly, and everyone was all like “What? You do WHAT with your swatches?” Ha!
Until I have a chance to get to that stuff, I thought you might like to meet Mr. Ribbits. I have a small pond in my front yard, which attracts many amphibians in springtime. This year it seems that only salamanders bred in the pond, because I find many baby salamanders but no tadpoles.
(You can see his little legs if you click for big.)
(I’m sure there’s a technical term for “baby salamander,” but damned if I’m too tired to go look it up right now.)
Every afternoon I like to take a break from work, go over to the pond, and check out their progress. This is how I first met Mr. Ribbits. Every day for the last two months, when I walk over to the pond, a little frog leaps out ahead of my feet and jumps into the water. Splip!
I named him Mr. Ribbits. He’s the closest thing I have to a coworker, really.
Yesterday I was finally able to sneak up on Mr. Ribbits and get some pictures.
Isn’t he handsome? Sitting there all contemplative. He is a Cascades Frog. Whenever I water the lawn (I wouldn’t ordinarily, but the chickens are grazing it and I want it to stay green) I make sure to give his hiding spot a good sprinkle.
