In which I attempt to photograph puppies to scale

I received a request for pictures of puppies with something else in the frame, for scale. I am nothing if not responsive to my readers’ requests. (Um, except for the drawing. Next weekend?)

I pondered this for quite some time. I needed something which:

A. I knew you would have a mental sense of the size. (Which rules out, say, a coffee cup.)
B. I had on hand. (Rules out a can of soda.)
C. Could be safely nommed by puppies. (Rules out paperback books, dollar bills, rulers, etc.)

I settled on a 3×5 index card, and proceeded to the puppy holding area.

Ready…

Set…

Oops…

Gone.

You may have noticed that puppies are cute.

This is simply Darwinism at work.

I was able to get a picture of their big feets. Isn’t that a big feet! Yes him is! Yes him… *cough*

puppy

Hey, stop that. I’m trying to take pictures.

puppy

Seriously, that hurts. NO BITE.

Here, a puppy is drinking water from the thing I use to bring them water. That’s not a bowl, silly puppy! It wasn’t too long ago that this jug had to be kept away from them, because it posed a drowning risk. Aww.

puppy

The camera strap was asking for it.

Puppy wuvs u.

All of the puppies have been spoken for. One went to his new home on Monday, one will be going tonight, two will be leaving on Thursday… some day very soon there will be no more puppies. Inconceivable!
